Reclaiming the Stolen Lands (Pathfinder Campaign Prep)
I originally picked up the first instalment of the the Kingmaker Adventure Path sometime ago when I first contemplated running a Pathfinder game for a group of friends. Looking through the book I remember being daunted by it’s obvious lack of structure and worried that I would be unable to keep the party on track. In the end I decided that this particular adventure path wasn’t for me and I looked at Carrion Crown instead.
Come forward a year and a bit, and I am once more preparing to run a Pathfinder game for a group of friends, this time I have decided that I will be running the Kingmaker path but this time I am going to make it my own. Originally I was worried that the fact that this particular game is sandbox in nature, that my players would ignore the plot and pursuit of their own desires. I am not sure why this made me panic before but I have come to realize that it’s not my job to keep players on task, but to ensure that the game is enjoyable. In preparation for running this game I have attempted to populate the world with all manner of NPCs and creatures that the players can approach in whatever way they like. I have also began to account for possible outcomes of individual quests and I hope to link each module of the adventure path to the next.
One thing that I will be ensuring is that the world remains as organic as I possibly can make it, I want NPCs to gain levels, for the world to evolve and for actions to have consequences. I really cannot post anything more at the moment without giving away any information.
The game begins this week, with everyone gathering for a character creation session, but after this there will be short break as my wedding and honeymoon means that things might be a little busy.
A brief update…
Managed to get 3000+ words done yesterday, doubt I’ll get anything near that today with an eight hour shift. Got the choice of making notes during my break or reading American Gods, hopefully I’ll do some writing but we’ll see how tired I am.
Aiming for 1000 words today.
The Beginning (of the End)
I have decided to try my hand at writing, I have had an idea in my head for a while and figured it was time to get it down on paper while I have some time free. To help keep my head organized throughout this process, especially at the start, I am going to blog about it.
Consider this a more “heads up” kind of post rather than a information dump. Plus I haven’t posted on here for a while and I need to get back into the habit of it.
I have very little to add to this today, I doubt I will get much done over this weekend what with work and Sadie’s party but we shall see how it goes.

A Roleplay Update (GURPS)
Just a quick update because it’s been a while since I’ve posted. So I’ve been thinking of running a GURPS Discworld game. This is currently in an embryonic stage while I am considering a storyline with the right mix of serious plot and comic ideas. I am currently thinking that it should focus around a small adventuring party from Ankh-Morpork who decide that they could really make their names by adventuring in Uberwald selling their services to the Noble families of the area wishing to be rid of wild wolfmen and uncontrollable human bandits. The drama really begins when they realize that working in the Uberwald is a lot more difficult (and dangerous) than killing rats in basements in Ankh-Morpork.
More to come once I have planned it a little bit more.
Give my regards to St Peter… or whoever does his job… but in hell.
A little excited…
I know it is a little sad but I am actually excited about the fact that Dark Heresy and Deathwatch should be arriving tomorrow :)
However I am brought down by the fact that Shadowrun has not even been sent out yet…
Looking forward to the chance to read some new books and systems and maybe organize some kind of game.
Sci-Fi Game?
Right, so as I’ve sat round today I have been thinking about what kind of game I want to run in the coming year. I think I have narrowed it down to a sci-fi game, I am thinking I will either use the Battlestar Galactica rule set (I do love lethal combat) or the Rogue Trader rule set so that people can have a class.
As a general premise the game would revolve around a small group of traders/smugglers who are out to make a quick buck and a semi-decent living. This of course would go wrong and they would be sucked into a world of underworld gangs and other darker aspects of smuggling.
Like I said, I’ll keep you updated.
Catch you later,
Chris
I want to run a game…
As usual, I want to run a tabletop roleplay game and soon, I have to make a decision on what game I will run.
As usual we have my obligatory World of Darkness games, you know Vampire or Werewolf or maybe something off the wall like using Changing Breeds… I mean Mirrors does open up some very interesting setting possibilities but then it still World of Darkness.
Next then we come to the zombie fun of All Flesh Must Be Eaten. I like the game and I like the system, but I struggle to make a real campaign out of it. It would be great for a sandbox adventure style thing but I want a story driven game and I just don’t think AFMBE can provide that like other systems.
So then we come to a personal favourite of mine, the little known game Summerland (if you regularly read my blog you may remember a review a good couple months back). This game is simple and fun, using only d6 but then it is little known and it could be difficult to create a long running campaign from a game that is more or less based around, you go here and they ask you to do something…
These leaves me toying with 3 ideas, Rogue Trader, Call of Cthulhu and Battlestar Galactica. All three of these games would require me to brush up on the rules a little but then they all cater towards a game I’d like to play. BSG and RT are both Sci-Fi adventures involving epic ship-to-ship combat and the exploration of unknown world. CoC on the other hand is a terrifying descent into madness and horror with investigation that changes the world around you.
As a final thought, it has recently become apparent to me that I really want to purchase Shadowrun and Deathwatch… And Deathwatch would allow me to maybe combine it with Rogue Trader and Dark Heresy to create some kind of super Imperial Strike force game… I’ll get back to you on this…

Geists and Birthdays in one weekend
Next weekend is set to be an entertaining one for two reasons. The first and most obvious being the fact that this Sunday is my 21st Birthday and this of course leads me to reflect on a life where I have achieved little beyond the accumulation of student debts and a vendetta against my liver.
The second reason is of course the fact that this Saturday is the first Geist Game in Kent. I am storytelling and am beginning to feel a little nervous but we shall see what happens. I expect that there shall also be a blog or two following the game about what happened.
Later this month there is also the first Geist game which I shall be a player in, so I have decided to keep a little diary about what happens on such on here.
So, yeah, see you guys soon…
